#SuzyPFW Stella McCartney: My Way

Stella McCartney’s new status working on her own without the support of the Kering group was in her own words, “No big deal”.

“I don’t feel like I’m on my own – I feel like I am surrounded by a family of incredible, talented people so I feel really excited and inspired. This collection is very Stella. It’s all about the future, isn’t it?”

All that was said backstage in the Paris Opera House where the designer has always shown, while front of house had the usual layout and a few famous front row guests, including French actress Isabelle Huppert, young California sister band Haim and actor William Peltz as well as fashion week stalwart Alexa Chung.

But the clothes were marginally different – summed up at the starting point by a curvy, all-in-one shorts outfit smothered with a flower print. Let’s call it feminine and forceful at the same time.

Then came the other two prongs of Stella’s style: a mildly oversized trouser suit and a dress with a stretch top and pleated skater skirt – not so much athleisure as ath-sexy.

The actual menswear was cut in the same style – literally in the case of flower printed trousers. The overall attitude for both was easy, but with little extras like an inky print on denim.

Stella insisted that breaking up with Kering group had not been so tough.

“I had to make a decision and I made it,” she said. “It’s just a continuation. It feels really exciting and it feels ballsy – I’m in control of the house!”
